Salzburg Marionette Theater
Touring November 1 - December 15, 2013
A performance of Mozart’s Bastien und Bastienne marked the founding of the Salzburg Marionette Theater by sculptor Anton Aicher in 1913. Aicher was so successful with his performances that in the autumn of the same year he and his marionettes went on their first tour.
In the century that has followed, the company has toured extensively, bringing its magical interpretations of opera and theater to audiences around the globe. They continue to perform and develop new interpretations of beloved stage works in their home theater and studios in Salzburg, Austria.
In celebration of their 100th anniversary, the Salzburg Marionettes will return to the United States in 2013, offering performances of The Sound of Music, Hansel and Gretel, Mozart's The Magic Flute, and a new production of Alice in Wonderland. In addition, the Theatre will premiere a new 75-minute version of Wagner's complete Ring Cycle.
